Miscellaneous
  • Jess and I took advantage of in-home baby-sitters this weekend to go to the drive in where we saw Wall-E and Hancock.
  • Charlie has fun throwing rocks and sticks into the river.
  • Working from the new office seems to be going well. Even the highest tier bandwidth package of satellite internet however is proving sub-optimal for my typical consumption paradigm. I'm surprised at how much bandwidth I "need" when not even specifically downloading a file.
  • Went to a car show with the guys on Monday evening. Now I need a Hot Rod.

House Stuff
We're doing it. So much stuff has happened to get here and so much more still to do. But we're moved in to a comfortable living state so all is well.

The Amazing Remote Access Whip Cream Retrieval Armature

Baby
New fun trick out for dinner at Zebb's tonight. Jess and I ordered some milkshakes for ourselves. At the time they arrived, Charlie was playing with a straw. Jess took her milkshake and placed it far across the table far out of baby reach (or so we thought). Without missing a beat, Charlie reached out with the straw, holding it by it's end, which effectively crossed the table, scooped up a chunk of whip cream and popped it right back into his mouth. Meanwhile, parents and waitress just watched with a dumbfounded slack jawed expression... before erupting into laughter. Score one kiddo.
Happy Father's Day 2008

Baby

Around the greeting card holidays, Daycare usually does some sort of craft project for Mom and/or Dad with Charlie. On Friday of course then I got my Father's Day card from Charlie. Not the most flattering picture, but it was super cute how he "gave" it to me.

It hadn't actually occurred to me to expect the card. When I showed up to pick Charlie up from daycare, I got a bunch of bonus "Da-Da's" and a great big hug. While gathering up his stuff, Charlie was extremely insistent on pointing at his folder where I am supposed to pick up his daily care sheet. I had never seen him do that before, and when I opened up the folder, his card was in there. He pointed right at it, said Da-Da, opened it up, pointed at his picture and gave me another great big hug.

In my mind, I clearly translated his actions to mean: "Happy Father's Day Dad. Here is a card I made for you. I Love You. Now get me outta here".
Yard Sold

House Stuff
Yard sale weekend is done. Jess blogged it here. Holy Moly, that was a ton of work. But so much stuff is gone now... hallelujah.

Friends seemed to appear throughout the weekend at most opportune times. You people know who you are... THANKS!

Nobody took any of my four computer monitors from the free pile. So today I hauled them over to Maven only to find out they charge a $5 per monitor recycling fee. Ouch! Luckily I didn't do that and after dialing 311 found that I can leave them at the curb and the city will pick them up for recycling for free!
A call to arms

Friends
Any locals reading this (or out of towners that may be in Rochester this weekend), we are seeking some assistance for this weekend's garage sale. We'll be quite busy and anyone who can stop by to help with moving furniture into the yard and/or watching/playing with Charlie while we move furniture will be most appreciated. We're giving away lawnmowers to everyone who helps! Also, if people have card tables or fold up tables we can borrow, let me know!

House Stuff
Jess dropped Charlie off at daycare this morning, and we've both taken the day off in order to sort out our stuff for the neighborhood garage sale this weekend.

Please stop by to say hi and also to take away as much stuff from the premises as possible. Friends of ours get a special deal: free amazing crap you never knew existed but can't possibly live without.
Corporate Challenge 2008

Optics and Work
The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge was last night, and I ran for Reflexite for the 3rd year in a row (we had a 25 runners, that's 40% of our company). My time was 31:05 for the 3.5mi course. Not too bad, except that I was really feeling the pain towards the end. The excuses for not training this year are piled high but notably I'm trying to kick some lingering respiratory crud... and I think the run at least help clear some of that up.

Kung Fu
Made it back to a Kung Fu after way too long. I had been noticing my energy draining, draining, draining away. But after class, kapow, life-force has returned... for now.
